Residents living in the Larapinta and Bradshaw Terrace areas in Alice Springs experienced some power outages over the weekend while Power and Water crews battled to identify an intermittent fault on the power system.Under normal circumstances the electricity supply to any area is fed from two sources, to increase flexibility and cater for maintenance purposes.
The primary source of power to the Larapinta area is by a high voltage cable along Larapinta Drive.
This cable is currently being replaced - residents may have seen the large excavation adjacent to the road - as part of Power and Water's ongoing refurbishment and upgrade program.
The cable is due to be placed back in service on Friday 22 June.
On the weekend the alternate overhead supply from Lovegrove developed a fault which meant that some residents were left without power.
Crews are working to identify the cause of the fault, as well as expedite the new underground cable. When the new cable has been installed an extensive manual inspection will be undertaken to determine any faults.
