Safety meeting powers up in Darwin

04 Jun 2008

Power and Water Corporation will host Health and Safety Managers from energy companies around Australia at the Energy Networks Association, Health, Safety & Environment Committee meeting on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 June.

The Energy Networks Association (ENA) is the peak national body representing gas and electricity distribution businesses throughout Australia with a focus on achieving injury free workplaces and nationally consistent safety and environment codes and regulations.

Rebecca Kardos, General Manager, Employee and Organisational Services, Power and Water said “Energy production is inherently a high risk industry. A well trained, safe, workplace is everyone’s priority.

“The Energy Networks Association meetings are a valuable opportunity to set national standards and learn from others with similar experiences and challenges.

“Members will discuss a diverse range of topics that can have serious safety and environmental consequences and the sort of safeguards and processes to minimise them occurring.”

The agenda in Darwin will cover issues such as a community electrical safety plan, managing contractors, management of chemicals and testing electrical workers safety equipment. Perhaps less obviously, the agenda also includes considering the possible effect that an influenza pandemic, resulting in extremely high absenteeism, might have on an essential service workforce.
