Power and Water Corporation is currently working to repair water leaks in the service lines to properties in Claymore Circuit, Brinkin and Baudin Court, Karama. Both water leaks are on the nature strip and have been caused by tree root damage.
In Brinkin, in consultation with Darwin City Council, a large African Mahogany will need to be removed. Options such as rerouting the service pipeline are not feasible as the roots of this tree extend many metres across and underground. In Karama, a smaller tree is located over the junction of a water main and service pipeline and again in consultation with Council, it needs to be removed.
Tree removal, excavation and repair works are expected to take several days.
Both Power and Water and Darwin City Council encourage residents to contact them about the suitability of species to be planted on nature strips as many services run underground (power, water, telecommunications) and overhead (powerlines and telecommunications).
