A 100 metre length of water main is being replaced in Alice Springs CBD after bursting in several places last month causing minor flooding and lifting of pavers in the area of the post office.Water Services General Manager, Paul Heaton, said, “We have a continual program of replacement of major water supply infrastructure and allocate about $300,000 a year for this type of works in Alice Springs.
Water mains, like anything else, have a limited lifespan and it makes sense to replace a significant section within the CBD now to minimise future disruptions.”
The materials for replacing the 100-metre section have arrived and works across the main road crossing have been completed. Contractors are already replacing and relaying the paving as backfilling and compaction is being done and most of the works should be completed by the end of the week.
