Power and Water Corporation will turn on Darwin’s biggest Christmas star at Parap water tower from Tuesday 1 December.
The star, eight metres high and wide, will light up at 7pm on 1 December and nightly until early January.
This is the fourth year the 27-metre high display—designed, raised and lit by a local company—has been a feature of the Darwin skyline.
In 2009 Power and Water is promoting a “green Christmas” message, encouraging Territorians to use energy wisely while they indulge in the fun of the festive season.
In keeping with this theme the star and “Merry Christmas” message are LED-lit, using less electricity.
A timer will turn the lights off at 2am each night, once most revellers have gone home.
Power and Water is encouraging home owners to look at LED lighting this year and put their Christmas lights on a timer.
These two small steps will reduce your electricity consumption as well as the associated cost and impact on the environment.
Power and Water wishes customers a happy and safe holiday season.
