Power and Water AFL Squad 2009

07 Sep 2009

Power and Water Corporation congratulates the outstanding achievers of this year’s Central Australian AFL Development Squad.

Power and Water presented a number of awards at Treager Park on Saturday night.

Scott Taylor, who picked up the Coaches' Award, said the squad had enabled him to develop his on-pitch skills.

"The opportunity to be part of a great program like the Power and Water academy is fantastic," he said.

"My football skills and the success I have had in football have a lot to do with the Power and Water squad."

"Going away on the two football trips over the past two years with the squad had helped to develop all in the program and I think that is why the development squad has had so much success over the past two years."

Power and Water Area Manager Alan Whyte said he was very pleased with the program, which recognises and assists young people with their sporting development.

"Our commitment to these young people ensures they have opportunity and support to achieve their sporting ambitions," he said.

Power and Water congratulates the following players on their achievements through this year's squad:

  • Power and Water Coaches' Award - Scott Taylor - for his excellent professionalism towards all aspects of the game.
  • Power and Water Rising Star Award - Tim Kelly - having only been playing football for a few years, his development over this time has been outstanding.
  • Power and Water Junior Award - Jake Neade - at only 15 years of age, he not only played and excelled in all of the Development Squad games, he also represented the Northern Territory in the National School Sports Carnival - earning all Australian selection and recently attended the Qantas AFL Kickstart camp in Melbourne.
  • Power and Water Community Spirit Award - Glenn Waistcoat - recognising the outstanding community involvement he has outside of football.
  • Lingiari Leadership Award - Mitch Murray - always leading by example and providing assistance, encouragement and advice as required.

Power and Water Corporation is proud to support the AFL Development Squad for a second year. The squad is a team of up and coming talented young football players from the Centre.
