Students are being encouraged to sharpen their pencils and get creative in Power and Water Corporation’s school poster competition. As part of the Melaleuca Awards for the first time in 2010, primary and middle school students have the opportunity to show why it’s important we are all sustainable through a personally-designed A3 poster.
The schools category of the Melaleuca Awards has long highlighted the environmental initiatives and achievements of Territory schools. Now students can be even more involved.
The poster competition is themed on the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity.
“We are looking for posters that convey the biodiversity theme, are visually appealing and creative in their use of materials,” Randall Scott, Power and Water’s Environment and Quality Manager, said.
“The Territory is an amazingly diverse place so we look forward to seeing entries that celebrate our unique landscapes, climates, flora and fauna.”
There are four categories in the competition (from transition to Year 9) with the winner of each receiving a $100 book voucher.
Entries open Monday 1 March 2010 and close Friday 16 April 2010.
Winners will be invited to the Melaleuca Awards presentation in Darwin on Friday 4 June. Winning posters will be on display at the Top End Sustainable Living Festival over the weekend of 5 - 6 June 2010.
