On Monday 10 October at approximately 2pm, two of Power and Water Corporation’s network staff members were injured when they came into contact with high voltage cables while carrying out routine work in a trench at Casuarina Zone Substation.

The two men, aged in their early 50’s, were transported to the Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment. Since then, one has been airlifted to the specialist burns unit in Adelaide for
further treatment. The other staff member remains in the Royal Darwin Hospital, both are in a serious but stable condition.

WorkSafe NT and Power and Water are conducting investigations into the incident at the Casuarina Zone Substation. Until the outcome of the investigation is available, all similar works involving high voltage cables has been suspended. Power and Water has made counselling services available to all staff and will continue to provide support required to assist our two staff members, and their families, in the recovery process.

An investigation is underway following this afternoon's Casuarina Zone Substation incident. Relevant authorities are on site including WorkSafe and counsellors.

While a Power Networks' crew was carrying out routine work in a trench, the workers came into contact with high voltage cables. Both have been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Power and Water advises that shortly after 2pm this afternoon, two Power Networks' crew were injured following an incident at the Casuarina Zone Substation.

Both have been transported to the Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment. Further information will be provided when available.
