Power and Water has welcomed 21 new apprentices in 2011, bringing the current total number of apprentices and trainees hosted by the Corporation to 79.The new apprentices will develop many skills during their four-year apprenticeship.
The group comprises school leavers to mature-aged aprentices, some with trade skills from previous work.
By the end of their four-year apprenticeship they will be repairing water mains, installing new apparatus, repairing high and low voltage electrical infrastructure or maintaining gas-powered generation equipment.
Of 15 apprentices who completed their training with Power and Water last year, 14 are now working with the Corporation.
All Power and Water’s apprentices and trainees, through Group Training NT, are employed across all business streams and based in all major regional centres throughout the Northern Territory.
This includes 53 in Darwin, 15 in Alice Springs, four in Katherine and four in Tennant Creek.
Apprentices are undertaking Certificate III qualifications in Electrical, Powerline, Cable Jointing, Instrumentation, Communications, Plumbing and Diesel and Mechanical Fitting and are working in Water Services, Power Networks and Electricity Generation.
Annual apprenticeship opportunities at Power and Water are advertised in September and October, successful applicants can expect to commence their apprenticeship the following January.
