Power and Water Corporation has commenced work on erecting Darwin’s biggest Christmas LED (light emitting diode) star on the water tower in Parap. The star will be illuminated by 7pm tonight (Tuesday).
The star and “Merry Christmas” message are lit by LED which uses far less electricity than conventional lights.
The star, eight metres high and wide, will be lit each night at 7pm to 2am until early January.
Designed, raised and lit by a local company, Total Event Services, this is the sixth year the Christmas star has been a feature of the Darwin skyline.
Power and Water is encouraging everyone to use energy wisely while they indulge in the fun of the festive season and encourage home owners to look at LED lighting and put their Christmas lights on a timer. These two small steps will reduce your electricity consumption as well as the associated cost and impact on the environment. By choosing energy-efficient Christmas lights such as LED or solar you can significantly reduce your energy use.
Power and Water would like to wish all its customers a happy and safe holiday season.
