Power and Water Corporation will be conducting some improvements at the Katherine Water Treatment Plant, which will ensure good quality drinking water is maintained for residents. For three weeks in March, while the project is underway, Katherine’s water supply will be transferred to bore water. Usually the water supply is a blend of bore water and water sourced from the Katherine River.
Power and Water’s Katherine Area Manager Anne Marie Hayman said that there will be no change in the quality of water but customers may notice a change, as bore water is slightly 'harder' than the usual supply.
“Power and Water is improving the filter at the water treatment plant, as part of our routine maintenance,” said Ms Hayman.
“This project will extend the water treatment plant and equipment and ensure the continued supply of good quality, safe drinking water for the Katherine community.
“Power and Water routinely monitors all drinking water supplies throughout the Northern Territory to ensure it remains high quality drinking water.”
Notices will be placed in local papers to keep customers informed.
