For up to date cyclone information visit SecureNT and the Department of Health. For updates on interruptions to power, water and sewerage services follow PowerWaterCorp on Twitter. In the event of a significant storm or cyclone Power and Water infrastructure may be damaged resulting in interruptions to services. We recommend that people have enough water and household provisions to last 72 hours.
After a severe storm or cyclone, Power and Water's first priority is to ensure public and employee safety. Crews will be on standby to go out as soon as the storm has passed. We will restore priority customers such as the hospitals and cyclone shelters first. Remember - stay away from any fallen powerlines and call the emergency number 1800 245 090.
If you intend to leave your property for an extended period or relocate to a cyclone shelter please unplug all electrical equipment and appliances at the mains and turn off your water supply. This could help reduce damage to your property.
At times we may have disconnected the electricity to your property for safety reasons. To have the power reconnected you will need to arrange for a licensed electrician to make repairs and provide you with a Certificate of Compliance. The Certificate of Compliance confirms that the house is safe to re-energise, ensuring we don't endanger your life by re-energising a house with damaged or water-logged wiring. You can notify us that you have this certificate by calling 1800 245 092.
